5 Tips & Design Ideas for Your Home Smoking Room
Having a smoking room in your home is the ultimate dream for many cigar lovers. Being able to sit back and relax while puffing on quality Cuban cigars in the comfort of your own home is a luxury we’d all like to indulge in.
If you’re lucky enough to have the space in your home to transform into a smoking room, then this is your sign to do it! We’re sharing some tips and design ideas to help make your smoking room dreams come true.
Install Ventilation
One of the most important things to think about when considering adding a smoking room to your home is the ventilation. While we love sitting in cloud of delicious smelling smoke, you’ll want some sort of ventilation to save your walls and soft furnishings.
For those on a budget, a single open window, unfortunately, isn’t going to do for ventilating a smoking room. But adding a few fans into the mix can be a more affordable way of ventilating your room.
If you can afford it, we would suggest investing in a quality air purifier, smoke eater or exhaust fan. The ventilation system you choose will depend on the size and shape of your smoking room and the number of windows you have.
Avoid Soft Furnishings
Smoke will cling to all fabric furnishings, like armchairs, sofas, curtains and carpets, making the room smell stale after a while. These furnishings aren’t the easiest to clean, so you might want to consider the type of materials you’re including in your room.
Leather, metal, wood and ceramic are not only easier to clean, but absorb less smoke than softer furnishings.
Invest in Your Humidor
If you’re considering adding a smoking room to your home, then you’re probably quite serious about cigars or pipe smoking, and will want the best quality from your tobacco.
It’s all very well buying the most expensive cigars, but if they’re not stored correctly, they’ll be worthless. A humidor is essential for keeping your cigars and tobacco in top condition.
Whether you would prefer a decorative wooden chest-style humidor as a centrepiece or a large built-in unit is up to you and the size of your cigar collection!
Add a Bar
A smoking room is the perfect place for relaxing, and what better way to do that than with a glass of something smooth! Plus, there are plenty of pairing opportunities to explore with your cigars.
Whether you’re after a full-on bar with fridges, stools and more bottles than you can imagine, or a drinks trolley or cabinet for smaller spaces; the choice is yours. Just make sure you’ve got some quality Scotch to enjoy with your smokes!
Consider Fire Safety
The art of cigar smoking involves a little fire, so it’s always best to be over-prepared and safe with fire precautions. Consider installing a fire alarm just outside of the room – if it’s inside, you’ll set it off every time your cigar gets going!
While cigars should usually just burn out independently, consider getting hold of a small fire extinguisher for emergencies, in case you drop your cigar or lighter onto something that ignites, or something drops in the embers.
